How a Messenger QR code works
The code holds your page’s Messenger link, m.me/yourbrand. When someone scans it, Messenger opens a conversation with your Facebook page, ready to type. They don’t need to find your page or know your phone number.
Type your page’s username (the part after facebook.com/) and we build the link, or paste an m.me link you already use.
Before you print
- Turn on messaging for your page. In your page settings, make sure people can message the page.
- Set up instant replies and away messages in Meta Business Suite, so people who scan out of hours get an answer straight away.
- Add frequently asked questions, which Messenger shows as tap-to-ask buttons in new chats.
- Test it from an account that isn’t a page admin, so you see exactly what customers see.
Messenger, WhatsApp or Facebook page?
- A Messenger code starts a private chat with your page. Best for questions, bookings and orders when customers already use Facebook.
- A WhatsApp code starts a chat with your phone number. Often better where WhatsApp is the main messaging app, such as India.
- A Facebook code opens your page, for follows and recommendations rather than conversations.
Where businesses use Messenger QR codes
- Shop counters and receipts: “Questions about your order? Message us”
- Restaurant tables and takeaway bags for reservations and orders
- Real estate boards and brochures for quick enquiries
- Salons, clinics and studios for appointment requests
- Product packaging for support and warranty questions
- Event posters, so people can ask questions before they buy a ticket
Reply fast
People who scan a code are ready to talk now. Messenger shows your typical response time on your page, and fast replies make more people message you. If you can’t reply quickly, set clear expectations in your away message, such as “We reply within 2 hours between 10:00 and 19:00”.
Static and dynamic codes
This is a static code: the m.me link is stored in the pattern, so it’s free and never expires, but you can’t change it later. A dynamic QR code lets you switch the destination, for example from Messenger to WhatsApp, without reprinting, and shows how many people scanned each placement.
If you change your page username
Your m.me link uses your page’s username. If you change it, printed codes may stop reaching your page. Settle on the username before printing, or use a dynamic code.
Print tips
m.me links are very short, so the code scans well even at 1.5–2 cm on stickers and receipts. On larger signs, make it about a tenth of the distance people stand away. Keep the code dark on a light background, and use Messenger blue in the frame.
